Puppy in a Bjorn

Hi All: I had to show you the photo I took the other day...this woman was carrying her beagle puppy like you would carry a baby in those back pack type of things. And the puppy was totally happy! It was the cutest thing!
Our second wave of guests checks out tomorrow and then third wave comes in. This was a great group, too. These guests we have here are so nice and fun and they have a ton of energy. We took them to speed skating, figure skating and ice hockey where the USA took down Norway pretty handily. The weather has been absolutely amazing for this group - not a cloud in the sky.
I haven't been out at night as much this go round - no Hooters - in fact, I don't even know if they have a Hooter's. However, there is a group of restaurants where the waitresses wear little black dresses...which doesn't do much for me. Where are the places where the waiters wear tight shirts? I had lunch at a place today where the waitresses were wearing an aqua colored dress and most of them didn't have their hair tied back or anything. I don't if you can even get away with that in the US as much.
I finally found my camera, not that I am a big picture taker but I feel like I should have a couple photos to show everyone that I actually was here in Vancouver.
I am working with this amazing woman named Kim who is from here and knows Vancouver REALLY well. She has been a godsend in giving the guests advice about where to eat and things to visit and most importantly, where to shop.
I'll include some more photos soon!
Love you all!

Less than 2 weeks left?

Hi Everyone!

The sun has actually come out! It doesn't seem to stay long but we will take anything we can get. If you are keeping track, you have seen that many of the mountain events have been postponed. The snow is just not good and it doesn't look it is going to get much better.

I am sure you have all heard about the guy from the country of Georgia who lost his life on the luge. We saw the replay literally minutes after it happened and it was the most devastating thing I have ever seen. Obviously, at that point, they didn't know that he would die. They have only shown it one other time here but I couldn't watch it. They haven't shown it since he was pronounced dead. Good bless him and his family!

Today is the first day for our second wave of guests. We had such an amazing time with everyone from Wave 1 - they were a great group!

Please don't tell my trainers but I am a big ol' tub of lard! I haven't worked out in awhile - seems like years- and we eat and drink very well here. If someone thinks or says to me "but doesn't the hotel have a gym", you obviously haven't been on-site to an event. Plus, you eat when you can and you can't be picky sometimes about what you put in your body. Hee hee - I have alot of excuses:-) I plan on diving right back in when I get home to get rid of these extra lbs.

Love you all,
Lisa

Hello All!

Very tired today but funny enough, I had 8 hours of sleep last night for the first time in a long time...which was probably not a smart thing to do. I do better, during an event, on less hours and more adrenaline.

Opening Ceremonies was 2 nights ago - I watched it from the comfort of a very plush couch in our Hospitality Suite. Generally, the ceremonies are better on TV because you can see the intended effect better. If you saw it, you will understand my next statement...the Orca whales swimming through was AMAZING! Our guests really seemed to enjoy themselves, which is the point!

Last night, I was able to see history in the making. I went with our guests to see the Canadian Women's hockey team literally smash the Slovakian team...19 - 0. No, this is not a typo. The poor Slovakians did not score at all. Shots on goal for the Candians was over 50 and did not make it over 10 for the Slovakians:-(

The sun is finally coming out here in Vancouver - if it does make it all the way out, it will be the first for our guests since they arrived. It has rained almost non-stop since they got here. They seemed to be OK with it but some of the events keep getting postponed because the snow is too slushy or there isn't enough.

I'm going to go walk around outside for a bit and see if I can get some Vitamin D!!

Love you all!

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!

Hi All!

Welcome to Super Bowl Sunday...Florida style. It is supposed to be in the 60's today and sunny, which I am very happy about. Apparently, 3 years ago when Super Bowl was last here in South Florida, it rained all day which made for a miserable work day.

So far, things have been going well. The Saints fans are pretty crazy and most start drinking the minute they wake up:-) They are nice people, though, and just love to have fun. And they LOVE their Saints. Since my Vikings didn't make it in, I am cheering for the Saints to win this game. If that happens, this hotel will be crazy tonight with lots of partying!

Went into the center of Ft. Lauderdale last night for dinner and relaxation...got the dinner and a couple glasses of wine and not much relaxation but it was great people watching. I know that South Beach Miami was worse but I wouldn't try to get down there. As it was, it took a long time to get into Ft. Lauderdale.

Tomorrow starts my Olympic journey - I leave Ft. Lauderdale at 7:20 am for Vancouver which will be the beginning of a long day. I am looking forward to getting there, though.

Have a great week!

Love,
Lisa

Day One

Hello Family and Friends!

Once again, I am on the road...again, for another month. However, this trip is so different from the last - I am excited for this one and am thrilled to be working with the people I will be working with.

My first day brings me to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, for the Super Bowl. It is gorgeous down here - in the 70's during the day which I haven't seen for awhile. It was a little hard to pack considering that I leave Florida on Monday for Vancouver where it is in the 40's and probably rainy:-) You should see the size of my bags! I played the damsel in distress during the trip down here and wore my sling so that I could get some help with my bags. I don't want to take the chance of damaging the progress I have made so far on my shoulder! Of course, I can play the damsel pretty well...just ask the guys that I serve with at church!

I'll write more in the next couple of days - I have to get ready for our guests to check in on Friday...we have well over 200 coming to this hotel from New Orleans. Yes, the Saints fans are staying here. Not sure I like that considering they beat my Vikings!!

Love you all,
Lisa
